Help Us Improve Life with Heart Failure and an ICD.<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The CarvTop-ICD trial is a national research study comparing two standard, FDA-approved heart medications. The study focuses on patients with heart failure who also have an implantable defibrillator. The aim of the study is to determine which study medication is better able to prevent shocks, improve outcomes and quality of life.<\/p>\n

The CarvTop-ICD study is a research study for people with heart failure who have an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). Heart failure is commonly treated with medications called beta blockers, which help protect the heart and improve long-term health. Two of the most commonly used beta blockers are metoprolol succinate<\/strong> and carvedilol<\/strong>. Both medications are FDA approved and frequently prescribed for patients with heart failure. But doctors do not know which one is better. The CarvTop-ICD study will answer this important question.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Who can join this study?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

You can talk to your doctor about joining the study if:<\/p><\/div>

<\/i><\/span>

You have been diagnosed with heart failure (reduced heart function).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/span>

You have an implantable defibrillator (often referred to as an ICD).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

<\/i><\/span>

You are currently taking metoprolol succinate (also known as Toprol XL).\n<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The study is especially interested in enrolling women and people from underrepresented communities, since these groups are often not well represented in research.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

All participants in the study will receive standard, guideline-approved heart-failure therapy and will continue to undergo regular follow-up with their healthcare team. The study compares two proven medications (carvedilol vs metoprolol succinate) that are routinely used in the treatment of heart failure.<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
