Who can join this study?
You can talk to your doctor about joining the study if:
You have been diagnosed with heart failure and your heart function (LVEF) is 50% or lower.
You have an ICD or CRT-D device implanted in your chest to monitor your heart rhythm.
You are currently taking metoprolol succinate (often called Toprol XL) for your heart.
Both groups receive standard, guideline-approved heart-failure therapy with close follow-up. The study compares two proven medications used in everyday care.
Metoprolol Succinate
It specifically targets the heart to keep your rhythm steady and lowers your heart rate gently.
- Slows the heart and reduces strong beating
- Focuses primarily on heart rate and contractility
- Usually causes less drop in blood pressure when standing
- Long-standing, guideline-approved heart-failure therapy
Focused Action
Carvedilol
It works on the heart and also relaxes your blood vessels, which may help lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart.
- Slows the heart and reduces strain
- May influence stress hormones differently
- Relaxes blood vessels
- Long-standing, guideline-approved heart-failure therapy
